AirTag is an item tracker by Apple designed to help users locate personal items like keys, bags, clothing, and small electronic devices. It finds lost items through Apple's Find My network, a crowdsourced network which consisted of approximately 1 billion devices in early 2021. AirTags are compatible with any iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS/iPadOS 14.5 or later. With the built-in U1 chip, users of iPhone 11 or later models (excluding iPhone SE 2nd generation) can use Ultra Wideband technology for Precision Finding. AirTag was announced on April 20, 2021, with pre-orders starting April 23 and official release on April 30. To prevent unwanted tracking, iOS/iPadOS devices alert users if an unknown AirTag is seen moving with them. AirTag requires an Apple ID and iOS or iPadOS 14.5 or later. It uses a CR2032 coin cell battery that lasts about a year and is user-replaceable.
