Background

Derived from the 'iPod USB Power Adapter' introduced in 2004 (A1102, part number M9837LL/A) — a compact folding-prong design rated 5V⎓1A. The original iPhone (2007) shipped with this very adapter in its box; it was later revised as A1205 (label marked © 2008, made by Foxlink). From the iPhone 3G (2008) on, it was gradually superseded by the smaller '5W cube' family.
