Background

Announced in January 2008, the Xserve (Early 2008) replaced the Xserve (Late 2006). It shipped in a single, highly customizable model, with a base price of $2999 U.S. BTO options included dual quad-core 2.8GHz or 3.0 GHz processors, up to 3 TB of storage via three hot-swappable bays, 32 GB of RAM via 8 slots, a Dual-Channel Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express card, Dual- and Quad-Channel 4 Gb Fibre Channel PCI Express cards, a Dual-Channel Ultra320 SCSI PCI-X card, and an Xserve RAID card.
