Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad was initially available only in silver with white keys. In March 2022, a black-key version, initially bundled with Mac Pro, was updated to the new design and made available as a standalone purchase. The charging port was updated to USB-C in October 2024.

On June 5, 2017, the Magic Keyboard received a minor visual update with changes to the Control and Option key symbols. A new version, Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad, was also introduced to replace the discontinued wired Apple Keyboard. It features a longer layout with a numeric keypad and a different arrow key arrangement. The Space Gray Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad (with black keys) was initially bundled with iMac Pro and later sold separately. A silver version with black keys was bundled with the 2019 Mac Pro. The Space Gray option was discontinued in May 2021.

On October 13, 2015, Apple released an updated wireless keyboard that was 13% smaller than its predecessor, featured a built-in rechargeable battery charged via Lightning, and added a new power switch.

Introduced with the early 2009 iMac models, this was a new wired version of the keyboard that, like its wireless counterpart, omitted the numeric keypad. The full version with the numeric keypad remained available as an option or standalone purchase.

On August 7, 2007, Apple released a redesigned Apple Wireless Keyboard, similar to the wired Apple Keyboard, featuring a thinner aluminum enclosure. It added media controls on function keys and Dashboard controls. The layout mirrored the MacBook, omitting the numeric keypad. A minor update was released in October 2009, requiring only two AA batteries and featuring slight visual tweaks.

The Apple Keyboard introduced in 2007 featured a solid aluminum enclosure, similar to the companion wireless model. It was the first model to omit the long-standing Apple logo (solid or open). After the release of the A1242 model in March 2009, it was renamed 'Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad'. It featured a downstream USB 2.0 port on each end. Discontinued in June 2017, it was the last wired keyboard produced by Apple.

In September 2003, Apple released its first wireless keyboard. Based on Bluetooth technology, it shipped alongside the Apple Wireless Mouse. The keyboard's appearance was similar to the Apple Keyboard released four months earlier, with white keys in a clear enclosure, but without USB ports on the back. It was powered by four AA batteries with a claimed battery life of nine months. It was discontinued in August 2007.

On May 6, 2003, Apple released the Apple Keyboard alongside the new eMac (ATI Graphics). The enclosure was similar to the white Apple Pro Keyboard, but the USB ports were moved to the back and the adjustable support was replaced by fixed feet. It was discontinued in August 2007.

The Apple Pro Keyboard was released in July 2000, replacing the Apple USB Keyboard. It restored standard keyboard dimensions, featured an iconic acrylic enclosure, and included two built-in USB ports. It was available in black and white and was discontinued in June 2003.

The Apple USB Keyboard was released in August 1998 with the first iMac. It was the first Apple keyboard to use USB, replacing the Apple Desktop Bus. Featuring a translucent enclosure, it was initially available in Bondi Blue and later expanded to five fruit colors (Blueberry, Grape, Strawberry, Tangerine, and Lime) and Graphite to match different iMac models. It was the last Apple keyboard to feature a power button and was discontinued in July 2000.
